The Caregiving Youth Project helps identify, recognize, educate and support students who care for ill, injured, elderly, or disabled family members. This allows caregiving youth to achieve success, have fun and make new friends, while promoting academic growth.

AACY and Dispute have formed a partnership. This partnership is designed to give relief to AACY families by leveraging Dispute's national network of experienced medical billing advocates to identify potential cases of overbilling, error, and fraud.

FREE VITA Tax Preparation service is only available if you earned less than $62,000 in 2015. You may be able to get Earned Income Tax Credit up to $6,242.

The free Tax Preparation is offered by trained volunteer tax preparers thru a partnership with United Way and the Internal Revenue Service.

The Caregiving Youth Project has started a new mentoring program. We already have a number of caring adults who have signed on as MENTORS with the M.A.C.Y. (Mentor A Caregiving Youth) program. If you are interested in having a mentor or tutor for this school year, reach out to your School's  Family Specialist or call our office at (561) 391-7401.

February is clearly a month of hearts!  Instead of writing "I love you", one might write, " I ?you".  Then there is Valentine's Day and all the love messages that go with it. Love is more than a a four letter word, a feeling, or even a symbol.  One day Bill Bell, a wise older friend, talked about four action words of love:  listen, help, encourage and give.  Wait! These are all part of caregiving - actions of love that we do every day!  ?on!!! 
Skills-Building groups continue to take place at all of our middle schools for the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Please remember that we are here to assist you and your family beyond your group meetings at school. If you would like a home visit to help you and your family, or are in need of tutoring or mentoring services, speak with your guidance counselor or CYP Family Specialist. Don't forget to stop by our Lunch and Learn table next month; the topic will be Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders.

New Lunch and Learns are taking place in some of our high schools, the topic for the upcoming month is Epilepsy and Seizure Disorder. Monthly skills-building groups continue to take place in all of our high schools. Please speak with your Family Specialist if you are in need of tutoring or mentoring.
The heart is the center, the engine of the cardiovascular system and the whole body. It needs the rest of the body to perform its job and for sure the body needs it to fulfill the all-important function of delivering oxygen and nutrients to maintain the proper functioning of cell.

Grouped within the heart illnesses are hypertension or high blood pressure and stroke. There are two primary contributors of these diseases: 1) your genetics; and, 2) your lifestyle. Although some scientists are trying to figure it all out, for right now there is nothing we can do to change our genetic makeup. The good news is that there are MANY things we can do to change lifestyle habits that can contribute to heart disease.

When you are caring for a blood relative such as your mom, dad or grandparents, their genes are your genes. As you help them with making some lifestyle changes to improve their heart health, know that these changes are also good for you to keep a healthy heart and to protect your future.

The primary lifestyle changes you can help your family member make to have the best heart health possible are to:
  • Limit the amounts of salt and fats in your diet - start with no added salt to food you eat and avoid fried foods
  • Maintain a proper weight so that your heart, the engine, does not have to work over time
  • Participate in regular exercise to keep your muscles, including your heart muscle in shape, regulate your blood pressure, reduce stress and promote a feeling of well-being
  • Avoid smoking or being around second hand smoke
  • Reduce your stress and anxieties - let go of the things you cannot change, practice deep breathing exercise, express your feelings by journaling or talking with a trusted friend or adult.
The trusted adult might be the Family Specialist of the Caregiving Youth Project who is in your school or who is a phone call away at 561.391.7401. The heart matters - keep it healthy for you and for the ones in your care!
Whole Foods Market is proud to actively give back to the community through contributions of product, donations, as well as volunteer time.
Our community giving program supports organizations that address community issues such as:
*environmental and "green" initiatives  
*hunger relief
*organic & sustainable agriculture/gardens
*animal welfare issues
*healthy eating and active living.

Whole Foods hosts middle school students in the CYP program to educate them on selecting and purchasing healthy foods, as well as, conducts a cooking class at their store.
